Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has revealed why Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi is yet to play for the Blues this season.
The 29-year-old is yet to play a match so far this season due to injuries and stern competition for a place in the defensive midfield position.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Everton’s visit on Saturday, Conte suggested Mikel is yet to play because of injuries and a strong competition.
“It’s normal in every squad there are players that arrive at the end of their contract and then together with the club take a decision,” Conte told reporters.
“For me the most important thing is that Mikel is working very well now, because in the past he had some injuries. Now he is working very hard and I’m pleased with his work-rate.”
The Super Eagles captain is currently in the final year of his contract at the Stamford Bridge having enjoyed 11 trophy laden years as a part of the Roman Army.
